Simplicity, Burnout & Watercolours

by Ashleigh Gureckas, Discover Art Therapy
Jun 10, 2025

Hi friend,

This newsletter is coming to you 10 days into June… because I’ve been deep in building something beautiful.
Between designing 🌀The Watercolour Reset, filming a whole new series for YouTube (!!), and holding space inside The Make Space — I’ve been running on passion, joy, and a lot of behind-the-scenes to-dos.

I want to tell you something honestly:
I do everything here myself...

Every post, every product, every session, every email — it’s me, doing what I love, because I really do love it.

But loving your work doesn’t mean it’s sustainable to do everything, all the time, without rest.
And lately, I’ve been listening to entrepreneurs I admire, and one word keeps coming up again and again:
Simplify.

So this month, I’m simplifying.
That doesn’t mean I’m disappearing — it just means I’m letting go of the pressure to post constantly, launch endlessly, or fill your inbox with 5 different things at once.

Instead, I’m giving you one beautiful thing:

🌀 The Watercolour Reset

🌀 A free 7-day experience using intuitive, somatic watercolor to help you:
→ Let go of perfectionism through intuitive mark making
→ Regulate your nervous system to cultivate calm
→ Reconnect with play, softness, and painting!

+ Bonus Day 8 Project to tie all our little tecniques together!

Starting June 12, 2025, you’ll receive 7 short daily videos (plus a bonus day!) right to your inbox — guiding you to explore watercolor as a tool for presence and release. You can join us any time though!
It’s not about being good at painting. It’s not about technique.
It’s about sensation, intuition, and making marks just to see where they go.

You don’t have to follow along live — the videos will stay up on YouTube even after the live invitation is over.
But the live experience gives us a bit of structure, a shared rhythm, and a little creative magic in knowing others are doing it too.

If you’re thinking “I’m not a watercolor person,” I gently invite you to come anyway. This is art therapy-style watercolor: messy, gentle, curious, and freeing. There’s no wrong (or right..haha) way to show up.

👉 Click here to join The Watercolour Reset — it’s completely free for everyone. Everyone!

I might send you a June Part 2 newsletter once 🌀TWR wraps, because there are other things I’d love to share....

But for now — one thing.
Simple.
Intentional.
Creative.

With love,
🖌 Ashleigh

P.S.
If you’re craving deeper support, weekly creative rituals, and access to a whole library of therapeutic art journeys — The Make Space is open. It’s my cozy, high-value membership where we explore art as therapy together in real time (and in replay form). You'll love it, it's one of my favourite things I facilitate!

P.P.S.
As you can gather from this newsleter, I finally started a YouTube channel where you can create alongside me in longer, more spacious ways.
If you’ve ever wished for quiet creative videos, therapeutic art prompts, or just a cozy corner of the internet that isn’t social media… subscribe here and join me.
Canadian creators can finally get paid there — so every view, like, or comment truly helps this work grow. 💛

Here's a simple and gentle 15-minute creative meditation you can watch and paint alongside me with:

[July Newsletter] An honest summer check-in
Hi friend, Recently, I made a few new art therapy friends in person who had only known me from online, and when they talk about what they see online from me, every single one of them says: “You do soooo much.” And honestly… they’re right. I’ve shared everything from watercolour for somatics, to bilateral drawing for nervous system regulation. I run The Make Space every week. I’ve created a ridi...
What the earth (and art) can teach us about letting go of perfectionism
Hey there, Ashleigh the art therapist here saying hello on this beautiful sunny second day of May (or at least sunny where I am)!I didn't send a newsletter yesterday because honestly? I didn't know what I wanted to share quite yet. Sometimes the systems we are used to are actually the very ones keeping us stuck from true inspiration, right? Instead of floundering and getting upset my ideas for ...
Authenticity, art, and the places that change us (or bring us closer to our true self)
Hey friend, Have you ever stepped into a space that just felt different? Like the air was lighter, your shoulders softened, and—without even meaning to—you just… came back to yourself? For me, that space was a summer camp called Camp Wanakita when I was a kid.. that was the first time I truly felt that feeling. It's unreal that this memory is from over 20 years ago in my life, but that speaks ...
